So, The Boy and I took in a screening of Planet 51 last weekend. I was fully prepared not to enjoy it. It was already suspect due to the limited number of theaters it was playing in. Approximately, 4 on the Westside. And the reviews had to been middling at best. But, The Boy wanted to see it, so we went…

I was admittedly more than a little skeptical going into this film. I don’t know….I get very suspicious when the marketing of a film is all about the guy who Produced the thing and little to nothing is mentioned about the dude who actually directed it. It seems like the studios do that when the movie sucks and spends no more than 3 days in the theaters before it dives down into Rental Hell Land.
Let’s face it, “District 9” has no stars of note in it. It was filmed in New Zealand. It’s about Aliens…but….it’s….

First off…..let’s face it. I don’t get a lot of time off from teaching you guys how to kick butt. But, when I do…why in the world would I choose to go see a movie with such a creepy marketing campaign? Have you guys seen those billboards and posters? “There’s something wrong with Esther.” Well, with those ponytails, a Well-Beyond-Goth-Waxy/Wane complexion and that lovely accessory around her neck, matched in style and tact only by her doll like black eyes…it’s a fair bet that, yep, there’s something OBVIOUSLY wrong with Esther. Just got back from seeing Pixar’s animated feature “UP.” Saw it with my 7 year old son. It was his second viewing, my first. I was constantly made aware of this fact through out the film due to his rapid fire precognition of all “the good parts.” It was like seeing a movie with 4 foot tall psychic who divined each and every pivotal moment of the movie with a larger than life stage whisper that the rest of the audience could plainly hear…Read more...

Okay, to kick off my fabulous Movie Review section I’m going to christen my site by reviewing Michael Mann’s latest cinematic endeavor “Public Enemies.” It concerns the exploits of the late, great criminal John Dillinger, whose bank robberies and public popularity was at its zenith in 1933-1934.
